Nomvethe pained by Swallows' struggles

The Dube Birds are facing a third straight relegation to the fourth tier as their woes deepen in the ABC Motsepe League.

Swallows' slide is startling given that Nomvethe almost helped them win the PSL in 2011/12 as they finished behind Orlando Pirates. He claimed the Golden Boot with 19 goals and was named Footballer of the Season among other accolades in that season.

Nomvethe then lifted the MTN8 Cup in 2012 with the Soweto side under coach Zeca Marques after Gordon Igesund left the club for the Bafana Bafana job.

However, the former PSL giants have since fallen on hard times.

"It is very painful if you see the situation of the club you played for and achieved so much, seeing these things happen," Nomvethe tells

"In South Africa it is still the biggest team. It is not normal to be relegated in the PSL and drop down like that, which means every season they are dropping and things are getting worse and worse for the club.

"There are things that we were not doing right from the beginning at the club. But they don't need players, they need people who are in charge and those who own the club to step up.

"Things have been going wrong for some time. I don't know what is the main reasons, is it money or what? I hear those who are in charge, they still don't see eye to eye but it is sad," concludes the 39-year-old, who is third on the NFD scoring charts for AmaZulu with 13 goals this season.
