The women’s national team qualified for their first ever FIFA World Cup set to take place in France in 2019, by reaching the final of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON). This is not long after they had won the COSAFA Championships and were crowned Team of the Year during the South African Sports Awards.
The Brazilians bagged an unprecedented eighth league title, reclaiming the crown from Bidvest Wits. Despite competing on the continent, Sundowns managed to get their hands on the trophy, which is their third under coach Pitso Mosimane.

The former Bafana Bafana striker bagged his first piece of silverware as a head coach, winning the MTN8 with Cape Town City, who beat then defending champions SuperSport United via a penalty shootout. McCarthy also acquired his UEFA Pro-Licence.
The France-based striker had an incredible year, both at club and international level. He made a move to Strasbourg in the French Ligue 1 from Lille and is now one of the players battling for the Golden Boot award, with the likes of Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Mothiba established himself as the number nine for Bafana Bafana this year.
The Bafana Bafana player signed for English Premier League club Brighton Hove and Albion, but was loaned out to Belgian second division outfit Union SG, where he’s enjoying his game.
Mosimane won his third Absa Premiership title with Sundowns and will no doubt be happy with this achievement. The former Bafana Bafana mentor was also invited to do the CAF Pro-Licence and has been busy with the course throughout the year. Despite the demanding schedule, he has managed to keep Sundowns playing well.
