‘You can’t say we’ve solved our goal-scoring issue’

The Kameelrivier-based side have drawn seven matches, winning only two in their 11 matches played so far.

They are consequently 11th on the NFD table, something Malesela hopes will change when the league resumes this weekend.

Galaxy will visit sixth-placed Mbombela United at KaNyamazane Stadium on Saturday.

"Ja, it gave us a good chance to try certain personnel and try different people in different areas," Malesela told KickOff.com.

"It also gives us a chance to do the things that we could not do tactically. So more than anything it did us good than bad I think. But obviously it will depend on how we fare in the coming match. It also gave us a chance to test ourselves against credible opponents and stuff like that. Not to say that the opponents in the First Division are not credible but obviously when we go to the PSL it gives you confidence when you do well against those teams. So I think it did well for us than anything.

"Yes, of course the issue of goals we are trying to address. You cannot be completely so confident to say now we have solved the issue of goalscoring, until you see those goals being scored. So we just have to see if what we put in at training will yield results in the matches.

"Ja, the thing is we are playing teams that are above us in a row. I think the next five fixtures we'll be playing teams that are above us. So if we can get points off them then it means we are reducing the gap. So it's very important for us to start collecting three points, maximum points, as opposed to one point per match. Fortunately there's this string of matches that is coming where we have all the teams that are above us. That way it will help us close the gap between ourselves and them.

"Ja, we are in the middle somewhere. It's interesting to have these matches and see what will happen. But we are hoping to do well because we trained well and we are training well, and we will be well prepared come Saturday."

Asked about being drawn against Ajax Cape Town in the Nedbank Cup NFD qualifiers, Malesela said: "The most important part is having a home game. You know sometimes people will say let's focus on the league match now and whatever, but you can't ignore these things, they always come up. We have to deal with Mbombela first.

"The thing is for me since my arrival here, the only club to take four points from us is Ajax. So I'm not saying revenge but they owe something. You know everything that happens in football is about training, and this one trains us to mix the league and cup competition. You never know, you get to the PSL you go through these things, all the cup matches. So you have to have all the knowledge of balancing matches."
