Tributes pour in for Ntuka

Ntuka was stabbed to death, allegedly by a childhood friend, in Kroonstand on Friday night. The former Under-23 international captain was unattached to a club.

Police spokesperson Meselela Langa told KickOff.com last night that they are close to a breakthrough.

"We have intensified our search and we are confident that we will apprehend the suspect very soon," Langa said.

Meanwhile, condolences are continuing to pour in for the fallen soccer star.

SuperSport midfielder Thandani Ntshumayelo is devastated about the passing of his homeboy and former teammate.

"We were close as we were both from Free State," Ntshumayelo says. "He had his own problems, but personally I can say Jeffrey was a very good guy."

Defender Thabo September says he is praying for Ntuka's family to be strong during this difficult time.

"South Africa has lost another great talent. He had his problems like any other person, but he was a very talented player," September says. "It is heartbreaking and I pray to God to help comfort his family during these tough times."

Kaizer Chiefs media officer Luthando Zibeko says he has great memories of meeting Ntuka for the first time in 2006, while working for KICK OFF magazine as a reporter.

"I first met Ntuka during the Eight Nations Tournament in January 2006, when he was the captain of the Under-23s," Zibeko recalls.

"For me he was huge talent and at that time was linked with Chelsea in England. He was a player that the country was looking forward to see playing at the 2010 World Cup."

"Off the field Jeffrey was a nice boy who loved his family very much. I met him in Pretoria recently and he was someone who wanted to get his career back and bounce back to football.

"My heartfelt condolences go to his family in the Free State."

SuperSport communication manager David Skosana says Ntuka was one of the best footballers South Africa ever produced.

"I rate him as one of the best defenders in the country and one of our best exports, as he also played overseas. Gavin Hunt tried to resurrect his career at SuperSport but things didn't work out.

"It is very sad to lose a a young man in such a manner and our sincere condolences go to his family at this darkest hour."
