Akpeyi has joined up with The Super Eagles as the team's first-choice shot-stopper as they face the Central African Republic and Liberia.

The four remaining players will be aiming to contribute as Bafana Bafana aim to cement their place as leaders of Group G with a double-header against Ethiopia.

Meanwhile, head coach Hugo Broos has outlined his ambitions to emulate his home country Belgium's meteoric rise on the international stage.

"When it is going good with Bafana Bafana, the value of the players increases when you have a good national team," Broos said.

"I know what I am talking about, see what happened in my country. Fifteen years ago, nobody wanted a Belgian player, now everyone wants a Belgian player. So, directly, there are advantages to clubs.

"So, if you have a good national team, you can be sure that everyone will begin to have an interest in South African football.

The Bafana camp has also been hit by controversy in recent times as Orlando Pirates' Goodman Mosele failed to honour his international call-up.

While confusion surrounded the availability of attacker Thabiso Kutumela with Broos accusing Mamelodi Sundowns of sabotage.
