Ndlovu: Safranko not suited to Downs

Former PSL striker Sandile 'AK47' Ndlovu says Slovakian striker Pavol Safranko does not fit the playing style of a ball-playing side like Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 26-year-old arrived at Chloorkop in July accompanied with an impressive reputation having featured for clubs such as Dundee United and Aalborg BK, but has so far struggled in the DStv Premiership.

In his seven appearances so far for the club, Safranko has managed just a solitary goal.

Ndlovu says the lanky striker would have been a better fit for a team such as Kaizer Chiefs who rely on aerial strength.

"The Sundowns system doesn't allow them to have a target-man type striker," Ndlovu tells Kickoff.com.

"The likes of Safranko are target men. I saw the whole game against Golden Arrows but to be honest with you I was not impressed as such because we need to have someone that will play one-two in the final - third. Someone who can keep the ball and at the same time be quick on his feet.

"Yes he can hold the ball very well, but the problem is Sundowns prefers build-ups and not counter-attacking football.

At Sundowns that is not our kind of play. Sundowns wants to penetrate the defence. Yes, we were also tall strikers but we could play one-twos. Sometimes teams like Sundowns require a striker who will be able to release the ball quickly and not someone who will hold it. I don't see him playing one-twos.

He's a good striker for teams like Chiefs and Supersport who are always looking to rely on crosses and whatever. You hardly find crosses in a team like Sundowns...unless these three coaches are planning to change Sundowns' culture and style of play.

Obviously, teams, that prefer tall strikers it's the likes of Chiefs and Supersport because they cross the ball...either way you whip it, you whip it in a hope of finding someone. If there's no one to head the ball, as a teammate I will shout at this Safranko and say 'Where were you?'

"So the likes of Erasmus, Shalulile and Kutumela, those are Sundowns type of strikers because they are quick. You can't expect a tall person to be quick."
