Komphela's cup record at Chiefs

Chiefs host AmaZulu in their round of 16 clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium – yes, hosting a Durban-based team in Durban – on Saturday evening (20h15).

Having gone through two seasons without silverware at Naturena, all eyes will once again be on the equivocal tactician to lead the Glamour Boys to glory.

Usuthu will by no means be a walk-over, as they come off a morale-boosting 2-1 Absa Premiership win over Mamelodi Sundowns recently.

Bagging a trophy before the end of the year will also augur well for Amakhosi's league title aspirations, which are currently on track as they sit just three points behind log leaders Baroka, after nine games played.

Komphela’s cup record since his arrival at Chiefs in 2015 might not inspire confidence, but their recent win over The Brazilians and the stalemate against Orlando Pirates over the weekend might well count for something heading into the weekend’s tie.

In 20 domestic and continental cup matches thus far, he has registered eight wins, six defeats and six draws – two of which resulted in penalty shootout wins and another two in defeats, while the other two were two-legged affairs.

He has reached just two cup finals – the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout – in his first season, out of a possible eight, and been eliminated at the first hurdle on three occasions.

As far as their scoring record is concerned, Komphela’s Chiefs have scored 28 goals and conceded 18 from open play in their 20 cup clashes.
