Pirates have announced that Palacios will assume the role on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is found by the club's management.

The Peruvian tactician takes over, following the sudden departure of Muhsin Ertugral, and will take charge of the Buccaneers' Telkom Knockout quarter-final against Highlands Park on Saturday evening.

Palacios previously held the caretaker position in 2012, when Julio Leal vacated his position as head coach, and subsequently lead the team to the league title.

The 64-year-old will be assisted by Zipho Dlangalala and Bradley Carnell.
