Mammila confirms bonuses on the way

Telkom Knockout

On Saturday the Limpopo-based side won their first trophy when they beat Orlando Pirates 3-2 on penalties in the TKO decider at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

In the build-up to the final Mammila said the players don't have to worry about bonuses as they earn enough.

However, he now insists coach Wedson Nyirenda's charges knew they would get to share in the R4m prize money ahead of the game.

"I think the government wants to do the parade on Thursday," Mammila tells today.

"We will meet with them so that we can finalise how do they want it because they are the custodians when it comes to this. I think they have got the bus that they are going to get it for us (sic). Then we'll surely do the parade on Thursday. It's going to go to a lot of places I think; that's why I'm saying the government will give us the directives because we would love it to go to where you know we will even get supporters you know. I think we might even get a surprise at our offices in Polokwane and Lebowakgomo.

"We are still in Jo'burg. I think we are only gonna go back to Limpopo on Wednesday. The players knew from day one that they have got a big portion of the prize money, as the chairman [Khurishi Mphahlele] said that he does not want money, he wants the cup. They will share ... I'm not gonna say all of it though. I'm not going to reveal prices (sic) of the squad; how much they are going to share. We are not like other teams. To us this thing needs privacy to protect the players.

"I think I still have to verify this has ever happened in South African football [a club winning a cup in its third season in the PSL], I doubt it. We beat the previous PSL champions, we beat the previous Telkom champions ... what more do you want? We are deserved champions. If you beat the champions it means you become champions. Pirates, they were also in this game, but I think we were more hungrier than them. I have never thought of giving up because they were always coming from behind. So even the penalties I just told myself ... they will also come from behind. It was written man that it's ours. No matter how hard it was though, but it was written in our name."
