Erasmus: Derby not an issue

Telkom Knockout

The Buccaneers continued their poor domestic form on Wednesday evening, losing 1-0 to Bidvest Wits in a game which saw three players sent off.

The loss sees Pirates down in 11th place – 11 points behind the Students – with the Soweto Derby taking place next weekend, but Erasmus insists they are fully focused and determined to put it right against Maritzburg United in the Telkom Knockout on Saturday.

“We aren’t looking at the Derby or the [CAF] Final,” he said after the game. “There are more important games to be played between then and that's our focus.

“None of us like to lose, but after every loss the next game is the best opportunity to set things straight. We have a chance now against Maritzburg to get back on the right path and that is our focus right now.”

Erasmus also joined the chorus that Pirates must be able to transform their CAF form onto the local front.

“As players we need to get that mindset change so that we can apply ourselves to the PSL like we do in the CAF Confederation Cup,” he added.
