Re-live TKO final drama, controversy

Telkom Knockout

The 2019 Telkom Knockout final lacked very little as it featured goals, drama and controversy before Mamelodi Sundowns ultimately pipped Maritzburg United to the title.

Judas Moseamedia tried and nearly succeeded in fixing the country once again but Mauricio Affonso proved the hero as his brace cancelled out Maritzburg's hopes of another TKO upset.

But the tie wasn't without some controversy around the officiatiing as has been the norm in the PSL this season, with tempers flaring at the end of the game – particularly from Eric Tinkler, who saw his side denied what was arguably a ligitimate goal.

Moseamedi headed home a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time but the far-side official quickly raised his flag to cancel it out, causing much debate on whether the decision was correct or not.

The Team of Choice felt they were unjustly denied an opportunity to test Sundowns' resolve by going into extra-time and possibly penalties, with the match officials needing extra protection from exasperated club personnel.

Tinkler ultimately refused to openly participate in his post-match television interview as he argued that emotions were running too high before retreating to the change room, while The Brazilians celebrated their triumph, with club president Patrice Motsepe also joining in.
