Judas: Maritzburg to Bafana's saviour?

Telkom Knockout

Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler has heaped lavish praise on his top striker Judas Moseamedi for his exports so far this season.

Moseamedi has been enjoying his football of late, scoring crucial goals for the team ever since he helped them survive relegation at the end of last season.

Recently he sent the Team of Choice to their first ever Telkom Knockout final and again scored in the final against Mamelodi Sundowns, but unfortunately the fairytale had to end.

Nevertheless, Tinkler praised his target man and suggested he may be good enough for national team consideration.

"Judas is showing the hunger and desire to want to succeed, and I said to him at the beginning of the season that he has the potential to play for Bafana Bafana," Tinkler said after their cup defeat on Saturday.

"Because he has those qualities, he's one of those strikers that will chase a lot of balls and any other striker wouldn't have chased that. His work ethic is absolutely phenomenal.

"Many people have seen a strong and aggressive striker but technically he's also very, very gifted. He has an ability to take people on in one-on-one situations. He can also beat people in two-on-one situations when he is overloaded.

"So we spoke about that at the beginning of the season. He needs to lose weight, that's one of his biggest problems. He is as big as me so I know it's hard. You know sometimes a couple of days off, you put on some three kilos but he has shown hunger and desire to achieve things."

The 25-year-old striker has managed to bounce back from being unused at relegated Free State Stars to becoming one of the saviours of Maritzburg in the last seven months.

If he continues like this, his coach backs him for a Bafana Bafana call-up.

"I'm very, very proud of him because seven months ago he was not even playing at Free State Stars, he was on the bench and we brought him in and he saved Maritzburg United from the relegation zone," Tinkler added.

"He's been extremely influential for us so far this season but again you need to be grounded. He just has to be reminded not to live in the past, to live in the present and the future.

"Once he's built on what he's achieved so far then he has a greater chance to obviously get into the national team and possibly further."
