Midfielder Daylon Claasen is hoping history will repeat itself with Maritzburg United as they prepare for their Telkom Knockout campaign.
The Team of Choice are hosting Bidvest Wits tonight (20h00) at Harry Gwala Stadium in the tournament's opening fixture.
Claasen, who made a return to South Africa in 2017, won the cup with Wits in his debut season and speaking ahead of the encounter is hopes that can happen with Maritzburg too.
"My first season at Bidvest Wits I won the Telkom Knockout with them two years ago, and funnily enough we are opening against them," he said.
"It was my first cup in South African football so I'm looking forward to winning with Maritzburg United. Well, we will work hard for that. Bidvest is a good team, good players, organisation and coach Gavin Hunt knows what he's doing.
"But you know I don't think in South Africa there's any bad team, it's just organisation and Wits have won things, they are familiar with the tournament. Playing against them will be very competitive and we are capable of winning."
The 29-year-old has been a regular in Eric Tinkler's team and doing well against his former side will boost his morale as he looks to revive his international career.
