SA player denied work permit in Brazil

Former youth international Morne Nel has been left disappointed while heading back to South Africa after his work permit application in Brazil was rejected.

Nel had been spending a two-month period in Brazil awaiting the processing of his visa papers ahead of joining Brazil Serie D club Portuguesa de Desportos.

"My work permit has not been approved," Nel tells KickOff.com.

"I seriously don’t know why so I cannot answer the question about why it has not been approved. All that I have been told is that my application has not been approved and I will now be going back to South Africa in the next two weeks or so.

"I did everything the way I was supposed to, and I was part of the team and travelled with the team everywhere they went. The coach also wanted me to be part of the team which is why I was even in the starting line-up whenever we prepared for games but in the end, it didn't happen.

"However, I remain grateful for the opportunity and I’m still training with the team as normal, just that I will not be able to play in the matches. I have been here for two and a half months, and I was looking forward to this journey because they have treated me very well while I was here. Everything went well and I was always training with the intention of playing while waiting for the work permit to be issued," explains Nel.

The ex-SuperSport United and Ajax Cape Town midfielder added that the level of competition in Serie D in Brazil compares to the PSL.

"The standard of this league is very good and not so far away from the PSL back home. The plus is that you can grow from here as well," he adds.
