Former Kaizer Chiefs youngster Waylan Rooi has signed for Spanish side CD Almunecar City, becoming the third South African player to join the Spanish outfit in recent times.

On Thursday, lower league side Almunecar announced that 2014 Nike: The Chance winner Rooi had signed for the club for the 2020/21 campaign.

"Waylan is a player who we've heard nothing but positive reviews about from former managers and teammates alike," club sporting director George Jermy said.

"Coaches from his former clubs SuperSport [United] and Pretoria Athletic praised Waylan's attacking ability and incredible attitude, and his former teammate Liam Bickett couldn't speak highly enough of him."

After earning a spot at the Nike Football Academy during his formative years, Rooi returned to South Africa where he previously turned out for Amakhosi's MultiChoice Diski Challenge side.

He becomes the second South African player to join the Spanish team this month, following the arrival of Kwinda Netshitangani earlier in May, while veteran defender Thabang Matuka is also on the club's books.
