Serero makes history with Al Jazira

Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero is a league champion again after winning the Arabian Gulf League with Al Jazira.

Serero, 31, joined the United Arab Emirates outfit in 2019 as he followed his former Ajax Amsterdam manager Marcel Keizer to the Gulf which has seen an incredible change of fortunes for the club.

The defensive midfielder who's earned widespread plaudits for his role in their revival featured in all but one game in their 2020/21 league triumph - which is their first since 2016/17 campaign and third in their history.

'Cream' played a pivotal role with the experience of three Eredivisie titles under his belt as the youngest team in the league romped to the title scoring 65 goals and conceding 29 in the 26 league outings.

With 57 points, they edged second-placed Baniyas by three points which have also qualified them for next season's AFC Champions League campaign.

Serero recently signed a contract extension at Fakhr Abu Dhabi that will keep him at the club until the end of 2022/23 season.
