Thulani Serero has claimed a piece of history with Al Jazira after helping the club win the UAE Super Cup for the first time.

Reigning UAE Pro League champions Al Jazira claimed the domestic Super Cup for the first time in the club's history on Friday after defeating Shabab Al Ahli in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Bafana Bafana international Thulani Serero played the full 120 minutes for the 'Pride of Abu Dhabi' in a match that ultimately culminated in thrilling fashion.

Al Ahli, who have now lost each of the last three Super Cup clashes, took the lead in the 65th minute through Mohammad Jumaa and appeared set to claim the trophy as the match drew to a close.

However, Abdalla Ramadan netted a dramatic equaliser in the 88th-minute to force the game into extra time, where Serero & co. held firm to bring about the nervy penalty shootout.

There, Al Jazira emerged victorious to claim a first-ever Super Crown at the fifth time of asking, after having previously been defeated in 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2017, with Serero adding to his personal and ever-expanding trophy cabinet.

The 31-year-old has now won the Pro League and Super Cup in the United Arab Emirates, to add to the three Eredivisie crowns and Dutch Super Cup he won during his time with Ajax Amsterdam.
