Former Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar has been promoted to the role of U-18 assistant coach at Eredivisie giants AFC Ajax.

After acquiring his UEFA A License, Pienaar made the move to his former club as a trainee coach in December 2019 with a view of learning further whilst eventually acquiring his Pro License.

Last season he worked as a technical trainer at the lower and middle school of the esteemed academy system which is famed as one of the best in world football.

But as of next season, the 39-year-old will step up to the U-18s where he will serve as the assistant for head coach Dave Vos, showing how valuable he's becoming at the Dutch giants.

'Schilo' spent five seasons at Ajax after they snapped him up from the now-defunct Ajax Cape Town and won two league titles before his incredible career took him to the Bundesliga and Premier League.
