Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau has suffered a major blow after returning to his new club Al Ahly after the recent FIFA international break.

Tau joined the Egyptian giants last month before the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with South Africa against Zimbabwe and Ghana, which was met with much fanfare in Cairo.

Ahly forked out a reported R30-million to land his services from Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion before securing him on a four-year contract.

The 27-year-old is widely considered as the marquee signing of their off-season and his debut in the Egypt Super Cup was already being discussed within local media.

However, Tau is said to have suffered a muscle injury during the 1-0 victory over the Black Stars before returning to Mokthar El Tetsh, where he has now been ruled out for three to four weeks.

As a result, the former Mamelodi Sundowns star will miss the clash against Tala’a El-Gaish on 21 September but will now be set for a rehabilitation program to recover in time for the start of the Egyptian Premier League campaign.
