With Percy Tau yet to make his debut for Al Ahly, the Egyptian giants have now released a crucial injury update on the Bafana Bafana star.
Tau is yet to feature for Al Ahly since joining the club from Brighton & Hove Albion in August after he sustained a hamstring injury during last month's 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Ghana.
That injury saw the former Mamelodi Sundowns ruled out of the latest Bafana Bafana squad as well but he appears to be nearing his return to the pitch after being allowed to resume training by his club's medical team this past weekend.
"Percy Tau, Al Ahly’s attacking midfielder, participated in part of the team’s full training sessions as part of his recovery program," Al Ahly said in an official statement on Sunday.
"Tau will gradually participate in today’s session after recovering from his injury," Ahmed Abu Abla, head of Al Ahly’s medical staff, added.
The 27-year-old is expected to play no part in the reigning African champions' CAF Champions League second preliminary round clash against Union Sportive Gendarmerie Nationale later this month but should be fit to feature during the latter stages of the competition.
Tau's impending return to the pitch also bodes well for the South African national team who could now have their vice-captain available for the final round of group stage qualifiers in November for the next year's World Cup in Qatar.
Tau is one of a host of South African stars who have won top-flight league titles abroad
