Fresh from signing a permanent deal with Westerlo, Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster has another reason to celebrate after being named in the Belgian 1B Pro League XI of the Year.
Former Orlando Pirates striker Lyle Foster has crowned an impressive campaign with Westerlo by being named in the Belgian 1B Pro League XI for the 2021/22 campaign.
The 21-year-old was announced as part of the team of the season on Wednesday after a season in which he contributed nine goals (four goals in 23 assists) as Westerlo went on to secure promotion to the Jupiler Pro League as champions.
"Last but not least, we're adding Lyle Foster to our 'XI of the Season', the league said in an official statement.
"The 21-year-old striker of KVC Westerlo may not have excelled in his statistics this season (four goals and five assists in 23 matches), but almost everyone agreed that the South African was one of the driving forces behind the game. success of the champion.
"Foster, however, started the season hesitantly and in the first ten matches only got one starting place from Jonas De Roeck, but from match day 11 the (fast) train had left.
"With his speed, agility and strength, Foster quickly turned out to be a special weapon for the Ruffs and a scourge for the defense of almost all 1B teams."
The selection for the XI was made by coaches, assistant coaches, journalists, and analysts who had been tasked with choosing a team of the week throughout the campaign, during which Foster featured a record six times.
He will be staying on with Westerlo for the 2022/23 campaign after penning a R17 million deal with the club earlier this month.
