Luther has his destiny in his hands

Bafana Bafana attacking midfielder Luther Singh has his destiny in his hands after picking up form in the Portuguese Primeira Liga as he closes in on his sixth year playing in Europe.

This is the opinion of his representative Nadime Mahmood, who has watched the 23-year-old score three goals in the last three games for Pacos de Ferreira – where he is on loan from Sporting Braga – sending reminders again about his capabilities.

"Luther has been having an exciting season in here in Portugal because he has been enjoying minutes," Mahmood tells KickOff.com from Europe.

Singh's form earned him further call-ups to the senior national team for the games against Ghana and Sudan. He was named on the bench for the 1-1 draw with the Black Stars on Thursday evening.

"What is important for Luther is that he needs to keep upping his form because he should be aware that there is a lot more ahead of him. The destiny is in his hands and it will be his performances that speak for him. There has been all this talk including Belgium but what matters right now is to keep going in the right direction until the end of the season.

"He needs to keep playing football, score goals and then keep on focusing on football again all the time. We have spoken about what he needs to do for the remainder of the season, and he knows it because it is simply to score goals and not get distracted.

"I am glad that this loan move is working the way it is doing because this decision had to be taken amongst other options that included going to a club Rio Ave who were playing in the Europa League. We were attracted to the project because the coach [Pepa] at Pacos showed how much interest he had in working with Luther. Though Pacos were in the bottom half last season, he has now transformed them into a team that is playing for a spot in the Europa League, which is great," says Mahmood.

Pacos are fifth now and occupy the last of the Europa League qualifying spots.

Singh still has another year remaining on his contract with Braga having been on their books since 2017 after arriving from Sweden.
