Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Hendrick Ekstein continues to enjoy his football at Azerbaijan Premyer Liqa (top league) club FK Sabail where he has now played in at least 20 games for the second season running.

Ektsein made his 20th appearance of this campaign playing from the start in a 1-0 win over FK Qabala.

The stylish midfielder was then pulled out after 87 minutes in a tactical substitution aimed at securing the points in the match played at the Bayil Arena in Baku.

In all the 20 matches that Ekstein has played he has started all but just one.

That one game that he didn’t start was in the cup when he was brought on in the second half to provide the assist that won the match 3-2 for Sabail.

He has started in all the 17 league games that he has played so far this term for his club who are still not certain of survival with yesterday’s win moving them from bottom into fifth in the eight-team league.

Three league games remain and only the bottom team is relegated.

For all the game time that Ekstein has had he has only scored once this term with just one assist as well.

His goals and assists numbers were always an issue since his time at Chiefs where he was popular with fans.

In his first season in Azerbaijan last season Ekstein managed 22 appearances scoring five and providing four assists.

The 30-year-old spent the first half of the season at Sabah before switching over midway through the campaign to his current employers.
