Fagrie Lakay has become the first South African player to book his spot for the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

South African football will have at least one representative in the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup after winger Fagrie Lakay progressed to the quarter-finals with Egyptian giants, Pyramids FC.

Pyramids currently sit atop the Group A standings with 10 points from four matches and secured their passage to the next round after playing out a 1-1 draw against Tunisia's CS Sfaxien on Sunday evening.

The 2019/20 runners-up are one point ahead of Al Ahli Tripoli and six points clear of CS Sfaxien but can no longer mathematically end lower than second place due to the competition's head-to-head rules.

Lakay has featured in all four of the club's group stage matches following his January transfer from Cape Town City and played a starring role in last month's win over Zanaco, in which he scored both goals in a 2-0 victory.

Elsewhere, Orlando Pirates are on the brink of booking their ticket to the knockout stage of the competition after recording a 3-0 win over Royal Leopards over the weekend.

The Buccanneers now have a table-topping nine points from four Group B matches and will advance with a win in either of their upcoming matches against JS Saoura or Al Ittihad.
