Ex-Chiefs striker nets first goal abroad

SA Players Abroad

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC striker Ryan Moon has expressed his delight after opening his account in Europe on Sunday.

Moon, 24, joined Swedish top-flight side Varberg BoIS in March ahead of the new 2021 Allsvenskan season and has netted his first goal in his second start in their 2-1 victory over Östersunds FK.

The South Africa international featured as second-striker behind the towering Robin Simovic and was influential in his 66 minutes on the pitch and scored a 27th-minute equaliser for the visitors before Oliver Stanisic stoppage-time winner.

"It feels good to open my account and get my first goal, but there’s still lots of work to do to ensure I continue to keep getting myself into positions to score," Moon tells KickOff.com.

"I would say the major differences in the league [compared to the PSL] it's a lot more physical, you have to be stronger on the ball, a lot more aggressive and clinical in taking their chances even if it’s only one."

Former Ajax Cape Town and Borussia Dortmund winger Tashreeq Matthews also featured for 66 minutes while South African U-23 midfielder Luke Le Roux was a second-half substitute.
