Percy Tau transfer saga takes fresh twist

Brighton and Hove Albion have registered Percy Tau in their 2021/22 Premier League squad to throw a rumoured transfer to African champions Al Ahly into fresh doubt.

Tau has been at the centre of interest from Pitso Mosimane's Ahly in recent weeks with a deal said to be agreed between the two clubs.

However, just days after being left out of their final pre-season match against Getafe for 'personal reasons', the Bafana Bafana forward has been registered as a member of the Seagulls' squad.

The 27-year-old who is in the final year of a three-year contract, after joining from Mamelodi Sundowns has now been deemed 'available' for their season opener by head coach Graham Potter.

"Percy has been training with us this morning, there has been interest from overseas but nothing new to report," Potter said in a pre-match press conference ahead of their Premier League opener to Burnley at the weekend.

"He is available for the game on Saturday."

Tau was also spotted in Brighton's Premier League media day preparations posted on the club's official Twitter account, with all indications pointing towards Tau's involvement for this season.

According to additional reports in Egypt, a deal had been agreed in principle with the Red Devils but with the 2020/21 Egyptian Premier League campaign still in progress, finalising the transfer has been put on hold for now.

Tau has featured just six times for the English top-flight outfit and registered one assist since being recalled to the club from a loan spell at Anderlecht.
