Brighton and Hove Albion head coach Graham Potter has explained why Percy Tau departed the Premier League club to reunite with Pitso Moismane at Al Ahly.

Tau completed a sensational transfer to the Egyptian giants on Thursday evening after signing a four-year contract in a deal worth a reported R32-million.

While question marks surrounding his decision to make a switch from the English top-flight to Egypt remain, especially after making his official debut after two years due to work-permit issues.

Potter revealed Tau's desire for first-team football was the biggest factor in reuniting with Pitso Mosimane.

"I have really enjoyed working with Percy. He is very professional and extremely popular with the rest of the squad, but at this stage of his career he wants to be playing regularly and we fully understand that," Potter said.

"This move gives him the opportunity to do that and he is joining one of Africa's top clubs. On behalf of everyone at the club I wish him well for the future."

Tau made just six appearances for the Seagulls after being recalled to the club from Anderlecht in the January transfer window last season.
