Zungu's future clarified amid exit talk

Amiens president Bernard Joannin says the club has no intention of selling Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu in the off-season.

Zungu, 28, is set to return to the French outfit when the pre-season begins later this month after winning the Scottish Premier League during his six-month loan spell at Rangers.

After Rangers opted not to make the temporary switch permanent, speculation surrounding his future has been rife with reports in local media linking him with a move to Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Contrary to reports claiming the South Africa international will become a free agent at the end of this month, Zungu signed a one-year extension with the Ligue 2 outfit before his switch to Rangers was confirmed.

The decision to agree on a new deal allowed Amiens the opportunity to earn a transfer fee, should Rangers have exercised an option to sign him after the six-month stint.

Now, Joannin, speaking at the unveiling of new head coach Philippe Hinschberger, confirmed that Zungu will return to the club ahead of the 2021/22 Ligue 2 campaign.

"Bongani Zungu, who is returning from Glasgow on loan, will be an excellent addition [to the squad]," he said in part of the statement on their off-season plans.

It remains to be seen whether Zungu attracts interest to change their stance in the upcoming transfer window after he previously attracted interest from LaLiga and Serie A before his move to Scotland.
