Egyptian giants Al Ahly have confirmed that Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau is one of five players at the club who have tested positive for Covid-19.
The reigning African champions appear set to be without talisman Percy Tau when the club opens its campaign in the inaugural edition of the Egyptian League Cup against El Gouna later this week.
Ahly's team doctor Ahmed Abu Abla confirmed on Sunday that Tau is one of five players who have tested positive for the coronavirus alongside Luís Miquissone, Ahmed Nabil "Koka" Ahmed Abdelkader and Yasser Ibrahim.
Per the Covid-19 protocols, the quintet are now all self-isolating and "their condition will be monitored by the team's medical staff."
Tau has been one of the Team of the Century's star performers this season and has scored five goals in eight appearances across all competitions since joining the club from Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of the campaign.
The Bafana Bafana star is expected to miss Thursday's League Cup encounter against El Gouna on Thursday and his condition will be assessed ahead of Ahly's subsequent Group Stage matches in the competition.
Pitso Mosimane's charges have been drawn in Group B in the League Cup alongside El Gouna, Ismaily, Al Mokawloon, Smouha and Bank Al Ahly, with the matches scheduled to take place between 13 and 30 January 2022.
Ahly will also be hoping that Tau & co. make a speedy recovery as the club embarks on its FIFA Club World Cup campaign, which kicks off in Qatar with a clash against Monterrey on 5 February.
Tau is part of a select group of SA stars who have won top-flight honours abroad
