Bafana Bafana forward Luther Singh could be ruled out for the remainder of the year after being hospitalised with an undisclosed illness in Denmark.
On Saturday, Danish giants FC Copenhagen announced that South Africa international Luther Singh had been admitted to hospital for observation and testing after taking ill during a clash against PAOK earlier in the week.
"Luther Singh has been admitted to hospital after suffering from an illness," the club said in an official statement.
"Singh's symptoms worsened while the rest of the team was in Greece for our UEFA Europa Conference League match against PAOK. He has been admitted for observation and further tests."
Copenhagen coach Jess Thorup has since provided more information on the circumstances surrounding Singh's hospitalisation and revealed that the former SC Braga star is expected to be sidelined into the new year.
"I think we keep it internal, but what I can say is that on our trip to Greece, additional symptoms arose in relation to some disease," Thorup told Danish publication Bold.
"Therefore, they chose to admit Luther for further observation and examination. What has come out of it, I can not say more about. I can not say much other than that he is being examined, and then we have to see what the outcome will be.
"He has been under observation for a long time, and at some point, you reach a stage where it is said that now we need further examinations, and therefore our doctor chose to hospitalise him.
"There is nothing more dramatic in it, other than that we have to be sure of what it is we have to deal with. That is why we have left it to the hospital system.
"That's probably enough [that he will miss the rest of the year] without me being able to say it 100 per cent right now. It's more about him getting well and ready again, more than me thinking about whether he should play or not."
Singh joined Copenhagen at the start of the season and has made seven appearances for the club across all competitions thus far.
He is one of 20 Bafana Bafana internationals currently playing abroad
