Ghana star: I knew Bafana would fail

Ghana and Chelsea defender Baba Rahman admits he was not surprised that Bafana Bafana choked against Sudan and failed to qualify for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars left-back who joined the Blues in 2016 for a reported €26-million is currently on loan in the Greek Super League with PAOK where his form earned him a recall to the national team.

With South Africa losing 2-0 in Khartoum on Sunday, they failed to join Ghana in the 24-team AFCON set to be hosted in Cameroon next year and the 26-year-old tells FootballMadeInGhana the result didn't come as a shock.

"I had it in mind that it will be difficult for South Africa to win there," Rahman said after scoring in their 3-1 win over Sao Tome and Principe.

"I have been there and I saw how they played. If you go to Sudan or when we went there, the football wasn't attractive.

"They just want to win and so if you are not tough or have a bit of experience [at international level], then you get beaten easily. I knew it will be tough for South Africa to get a draw over there."

Charles Akonnor's side finished as Group C winners with 13 points, while Bafana finished third with 10 points from the six games played.
