CAF succumb to SAFA pressure

CAF have confirmed changes to the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which will favour Bafana Bafana following the initial release of fixtures.

Bafana are set to face Ghana away and Sudan at home in their two opening round AFCON qualifiers next month as they embark on the road to Cameroon.

The initial fixture list sent out by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) had Bafana pencilled down to face Ghana in Kumasa on Friday, November 15 before having to host Sudan two days later on Sunday, November 17.

However, this caused massive concern for SAFA, who felt the turnaround time was too strenuous both on the players and the association to finalise logistics.

The CAF have since reconsidered this, with Bafana now set to visit the Black Stars in Accra on Thursday, November 14 and then host the Falcons of Jediane on Sunday, November 17.

"Bafana Bafana will play the Black Stars of Ghana on Thursday, 14 November 2019 in Accra and welcome Sudan three days later on Sunday, 17 November at Orlando Stadium after CAF changed the initial dates for the Cameroon AFCON 2021 qualifiers," read a statement from SAFA.

Following the opening block of fixtures, the continental qualifiers will take a recess until September 2020, when Bafana face home and away matches against Sao Tome, who recently sealed their spot in Group C after beating Mauritius 5-2 on aggregate.
