Dolly hoping to avoid Cape Verde repeat

Keagan Dolly has revealed what Bafana Bafana need to do in order to avoid a repeat of the humiliation suffered against Cape Verde during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

South Africa head into the final set of group stage qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Zimbabwe and Ghana knowing that consecutive wins will ensure the nation's progression to the final round of qualification matches.

Hugo Broos' side currently tops the Group G standings ahead of nearest rivals Ghana, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe, the latter of whom they will meet as favourites in a home clash at FNB Stadium on Thursday.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Keagan Dolly warned against underestimating the Warriors and highlighted Bafana Bafana's shock back-to-back defeats to minnows Cape Verde in the failed 2018 campaign as a lesson to learn from.

"I think it's just [about] the mentality going into each game. We should know that there are no easy games," the Kaizer Chiefs star told the media on Monday.

"Especially now, with Zimbabwe at home, this is the most important one. We shouldn't focus on Ghana. We first have to deal with Zimbabwe and I think in the past that was one of our problems.

"If we saw a team like Cape Verde or São Tomé [and Príncipe], we thought it would be easy, and these countries want to come here and prove a point. "For us, it is [important] just to keep the focus and perform on the day."
