New Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has hinted he will look to youth to build a new squad - here are 10 local players who could benefit from his shake-up.

Broos is set to arrive in South Africa on Monday evening with his new assistant while U-23 head coach David Notoane has reportedly been sounded out as his 'local' assistant.

With the 69-year-old given breathing space with next months scheduled 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers now postponed, Broos will be offered more time to start the implementation of his new-look South Africa squad.

In his opening press conference to the media, the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations winning coach suggested he will take a similar approach to how he triumphed with Cameroon by bringing in a new generation of talent.

"I was a little bit surprised when I saw the selections of the last games that there were such a lot of players of 30 [years old] and more," he said.

"So, I think we have to rebuild the team – a younger team, and you can take the example of Cameroon, I did the same there. When you work with young players, they are motivated and hungry to show something."

Mamelodi Sundowns duo Sphelele Mkhulise (25) and Rivaldo Coetzee (24) have been in imperious form for the reigning champions in midfield as they look poised to retain their title.

Both have been touted for important roles for the national team alongside 25-year-old teammate Rushine De Reuck, who won the 2019/20 PSL Defender of the Season with Maritzburg United before signing for Masandawana.

Several other talents like Teboho Mokoena, Sipho Mbule and Reeve Frosler who have been on the periphery of the first team are also likely to be given more opportunity - should Broos stick to his word.
