The 27-year-old has struggled for game-time under coach Eric Tinkler, having initially joined the club in July 2016 from Polokwane City when Stuart Baxter was at the helm of the Tshwane giants.
There was tough competition in the engine room for Alexander, as youngsters Teboho Mokoena and Sipho Mbule got ahead of him in Tinkler’s side while injuries didn't help his cause.
“Firstly, I would like to thank Mr Stanley Matthews and the board members as well as everyone associated with the club for their support, as this is a special family club,” Alexander tells KickOff.com.
“It’s a pity that I didn't achieve my goals here at the club as I felt very at home and wanted to make more history with the club.”
According to a source at United, Bloemfontein Celtic and Platinum Stars have shown interest in the former Ajax Cape Town man.
“I’ve been told that Bloem Celtic and Platinum Stars have put in offers for Cole,” says the source.
“There’s a third club as well but for now that's all that I can say.”
