Mbatha will join Indian outfit Atletico de Kolkata on a short-term loan until the end of the 2017/18 season.
The 20-year-old has been on the books of Platinum Stars since the start of the season, on loan from Wits, but managed just seven Absa Premiership appearances this season.
The deal was possible due to the All Indian Football Federation’s transfer window running from January 16 to February 15, which was last Thursday.
“It’s a great opportunity for him to go and showcase his ability for the next few months, and he will be rubbing shoulders with likes of [former Irish international] Robbie Keene,” said Keegan Wasserfall, operations director at Siyavuma Sports Group, who manages Mbatha.
“Atletico de Kolkota were resilient in their pursuit of Mbatha and their keen interest in bringing him on board made it difficult to tune the opportunity down.”
The diminutive Amajita attacker will now join fellow South African winger Sameehg Doutie, who is currently playing his trade with Jamshedpur FC, in the South Asian country.
Mbatha, who featured for the junior national teams at the FIFA U-17 and U-20 World Cups, is in line to make his ATK debut when they face Delhi Dynamos this Friday.
