The national Under-20 captain spent last season playing for Pirates’ Multichoice Diski Challenge team after returning from a loan spell with Moroka Swallows in the second tier.
The newly formed Richards Bay FC are under the ownership of Jomo Biyela after the status previously known as Thanda Royal Zulu was sold to AmaZulu. Biyela confirmed that they are currently negotiating with Pirates to loan them some players ahead of the start of new season.
KickOff.com has established that Malepe, who has struggled to get ahead of the more experienced defenders in the Pirates starting line-up, is a key target.
“I can confirm that we have identified players from Pirates but at this stage I cannot disclose their names,” says Biyela.
Malepe, who was recently part of Bafana Bafana’s Cosafa Cup squad, captained the national U-20 team Amajita at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Zambia and again at the Fifa World Cup in South Korea earlier this year.
He’s done well at national team level, but he is itching for more game time at club level. Joining the KZN club would give him a great opportunity to play week in and out, which is what he needs to boost his chances of returning to the senior national team.
