Platinum Stars are leading three other unnamed PSL clubs to land the signature of the former Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper on a season-long loan.
Ngobeni spent the 2016/2017 PSL season on loan at Free State Stars, where he managed to revive his career after making a promising start at junior national team level close to 10 years ago.
The 28-year-old kept seven clean sheets in 29 appearances, both league and cup, and had the game of his life against his former side Chiefs in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinals last year.
Ngobeni had become used to watching football from either the bench or the stands at Chiefs and later Sundowns, but a move to Ea Lla Koto gave him a chance to show why he was once regarded as a future senior national team goalkeeper.
“The player spends most of his time in the gym at the moment because the Sundowns programme is different to his, as they are still involved in the [CAF] Champions League," a source tells KickOff.com.
“I can tell you right now that Platinum Stars are one of the four teams, and all four teams have approached Sundowns for Ngobeni. The negotiations are now at a stage where they have to reach an agreement, and that is expected to take place this week."
Ngobeni’s chances of playing at Sundowns are slim, so another loan move would help him build on the promising campaign he had with Ea Lla Koto.
