KickOff.com revealed Dikwena's capture of Matlakala on a three-year deal on Monday.
Stars have seemingly given up pursuing Bongi Ntuli, who is now in AmaZulu's sights after returning to Mamelodi Sundowns following a two-year loan spell in Phokeng.
Veteran hitman Botes left the Premiership side when his contract expired at the end of June.
"We can confirm that Matlakala has signed with us and we are hopeful that he can add value," Mazingiza told his club's website.
"We have been eyeing the young man. We have been looking for his signature. We had to speak to his club. We have agreed terms with them. He is now our player.
"Bongi Ntuli and Henrico Botes are no longer with us. So it’s key that we brought Matlakala to the club. Ntuli was on loan from Sundowns and talks of keeping him for long-term did not materialise. We are moving ahead. We hope Matlakala will fill that gap."
Mazingiza said more signings can be expected soon.
“Very soon the club will be making announcements. Most of the players are still contracted to their clubs. We will follow the rules and tread carefully. We are really hunting players that will assist in ensuring that we have got a balanced side going forward.”
The Peter Butler-coached outfit also recently recruited defender Sibusiso Mthethwa from University of Pretoria, while forward Thobani Kunene has returned from a loan spell at Real Kings.
However, Botes, Kobamelo Kodisang, Ndumiso Mabena, Tintswalo Tshabalala and Solomon Mathe have left the team ahead of 2017/18.
