The 37-year-old tactician is set to replace Benson Mhlongo and serve alongside Rhulani Mokwena under head coach Milutin Sredojevic.

"After going five months without filling the vacancy left by Benson Mhlongo the club is pleased to have a coach of Davids’ calibre joining the organisation as assistant coach," read a statement from Pirates.

Davids previously served under Kaizer Chiefs mentor Ernst Middendorp as an assistant at Maritzburg, before impressing in his first stint as a head coach last season.

Alongside his brother, Mahier Davids, the former striker led the club to fourth position – their highest finish – on the Absa Premiership standings as well as their first ever cup final, where they fell short to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup.

Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza has expressed his excitement to see the growth of two budding tacticians alongside the experience of 'Micho' within the club's technical team.

"I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Mr Davids to Orlando Pirates,” said Khoza in a club statement.

“What was gratifying when I introduced the coach to the technical team there was an instant cordiality and rapport between them.

“It is also quite exciting to have two emerging talents in Rhulani and Fadlu complementing each other.”
