Deadline day deal looms for Mothiba

Mothiba, who on Sunday turned 22, is on loan in Ligue II, and is enjoying a fruitful spell with his second division club, having scored eight goals in 20 appearances this season to help the club to 12th position on the log.

Mothiba recently extended his contract with Lille, and has made known his intentions to return to his parent club this January, especially following the arrival of two new French forwards Jordan Tell and Gaétan Robail at Valenciennes.

Mothiba was recently quoted in French media saying he desperately wants to go back to Lille, who themselves are keen to bring back the in-form striker to assist their ailing season as they currently lie 17th in Ligue 1, just two points above the drop zone.

Yet Valenciennes are not keen to let the striker go, with sources close to the player revealing that they even turned down a financial incentive for Mothiba’s early release.

Negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, with Lille hoping Valenciennes give in ahead of tonight’s transfer window deadline, with the player’s heart set on proving himself in the French top-flight following his second loan spell in the country’s second tier.

An added incentive is Mothiba's eagerness to be involved in Lille’s upcoming Ligue I clash against giants PSG, scheduled for Saturday evening at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
