Botes feels sorry for North West people

Stars were relegated from the Absa Premiership and major changes have been made at the club since then. The club will now be known as Cape Umoya United in the National First Division and will be based in Cape Town.

Leaving the North West also means the Royal Bafokeng Stadium will be a white elephant. Plans will have to be made for the stadium to be used by another PSL club, which will cost the province.

“I feel for the supporters. We moved there [to North West] in 2009 and we spent a number of years there. The supporters got to know us,” Botes tells

“I am not sure what entertainment they will be getting that side because there’s not much to do that side. You have to feel for the supporters. Sometimes people make management decisions that affect a lot of people and this is one case.”

The management of Cape Umoya United are yet to announce their plans for the upcoming season, while there’s no clarity as to when pre-season will commence. A few of the players who were contracted to Stars are still in limbo.
