Buchanan barely played for Chiefs over the past two years after arriving at Naturena with a serious knee injury, prompting his exit from the Soweto giants last week.
Maritzburg previously showed an interest in recruiting Buchanan based on his exploits for Bloemfontein Celtic, but Kadodia points out the 26-year-old has seen little game-time since then.
"Look I was not dealing with Kaizer Chiefs, the agent did speak to us," Kadodia explains to KickOff.com.
"We told the agent to allow the player to come for an assessment. We must see if his condition is right and if he has any injuries at the moment. I think the best way to say it is that we are looking to do an assessment on the player for over 10 days on his own, then we'll make a decision thereafter.
"We will only engage the player once we are happy, and the player suits our plan. There is no way that we just gonna go and make a public commitment on the player ... it's impossible. The player has not had game-time for a long time.
"He hasn't been on our radar while he was still in the books of Kaizer Chiefs. But now that he is out of the books of Kaizer Chiefs then we will see now if the player suits our culture of football, whether he's got the ability to regain the form that we saw when we wanted him."
