Okwuosa was set to leave Chippa after he arrived late for pre-season training when Dan Malesela was still in charge of the team.
According to a source at the Chilli Boys, the club was in discussions to sell the big Nigerian defender, but new coach Tinkler intervened.
"Tercious Malepe is joining us as from tomorrow (today) and James Okwuosa is also returning back," said Tinkler, who started his reign at the Port Elizabeth-based outfit with a 2-1 loss to former employers SuperSport United in midweek.
The ex-Orlando Pirates mentor also revealed that he is looking to sign a goalkeeper to provide competition to Daniel Akpeyi and Veli Mothwa.
"We currently have two goalkeepers. We are looking for a third goalkeeper," he added.
The transfer window shuts at midnight.
