Pienaar was recently released by Bidvest Wits after only making 11 appearances for the champions in a six-month spell.
Comitis touched base with the 35-year-old playmaker during the Citizens' 1-0 win over rivals Ajax Cape Town at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
"Pienaar was at our game and I had a bit of a chat with him," Comitis told KickOff.com.
"But I still have to discuss it with Benni in a meeting this afternoon."
City assistant coach Vasili Manousakis was in the dark when asked about Pienaar being linked with the club.
Manousakis did disclose that following the arrivals of Kwanda Mngonyama, Surprise Ralani and Masoud Juma, another two more signings would be made, one of which was confirmed as Ugandan winger Allan Kateregga early on Tuesday morning.
“We are looking at bringing in two more, all offensive players that can play in the top four positions – out wide, up at the top, possibly a ten,” McCarthy’s second-in-command said.
“It’s been something we have been lacking, to change gears and kill off games.”
The title contenders are next in action on Sunday afternoon as they travel to the Free State to take on Bloemfontein Celtic.
