Cape Town City keen to land Lakay

City have been relentless in their efforts to bolster their squad ahead of their second top flight season, as they look to build on their historic success in the 2016/17 campaign.

Though the Cape-based outfit have lost coach Eric Tinkler, with whom they lifted the Telkom Knockout cup and finished third in the Absa Premiership, they have wasted little time in bringing in Benni McCarthy as a replacement.

As far as playing personnel goes, the club have secured the services of Bafana Bafana midfielder Ayanda Patosi and Mozambique national team captain Jeitoso.

According to a source, Comitis has continued his pursuit of top-end signings with Bloemfontein Celtic winger Lakay now his next target.

The former SuperSport United left-footer still has a one-year option on his current deal with Celtic, but the Free State-based club’s slow approach to triggering the clause is believed to have sparked the player's desire to return to his hometown.

Meanwhile, Comitis has admitted his interest in the 25-year-old attacker but denies any deal being done between the two parties.

"We're interested in Lyle, we're interested in 100 players, but we can't just talk about players until we have spoken to their clubs," Comitis tells this website.

"Lyle Lakay has been in our sights from the time when Eric [Tinkler] was still here, as was Puleng Tlolane but subsequently we found out that he wasn't being truthful about his contract and we retracted our offer to him.

"That's all we are able to confirm at this stage."
