With Lakay’s initial deal with Phunya Sele Sele set to have expired at the end of next term, the playmaker would have been free to speak to interested parties in January 2018, according to PSL transfer regulations.
However, the Free State side have acted to ensure they do not lose Lakay for free by tying him down to a further 12 months, taking his stay at Celtic through to the end of the 2018/19 campaign.
According to a very reliable source within the Celtic offices, the club has now informed the player that the option will be exercised.
" The club have not yet offered the player any contract extension, but they have told him they are going to take the option,” the source tells KickOff.com.
Celtic will on Wednesday host Free State Stars in the always-combustible Free State derby on Wednesday, where Siwelele and Ea Lla Koto battle it out for three priceless points to avoid a potential relegation scrap on the final day of the campaign.
