The 28-year-old former Ajax Cape Town and Polokwane City midfielder was apparently keen to join Bloemfontein Celtic as a free agent after mutually parting ways with the SuperSport United last month, but made a u-turn at the last minute to join up with Gavin Hunt’s Clever Boys.
It’s believed that Alexander has signed a year-and a-half contract with a possible option of extending it for two years thereafter.
It’s a no secret that Hunt has had a liking for the Cape Town born Alexander since his days of leading SuperSport to three consecutive titles.
One cannot also blame Alexander for opting to sign with Wits rather than Celtic with the prospect of Champions League football on the African continent looming.
Alexander will, however, have his work cut out as he’ll have to battle with quality midfielders such as Thabang Monare, Phumlani Ntshangase, Granwald Scott, Ben Motshwari, Daylon Claasen and Edwin Gyimah for a place in the starting line-up.
But with so many matches still to play in different competitions, Hunt probably feels that Alexander will be able to do a job for him in the engine room at some stage of the season as well as the future.
