Baroka last week announced on their Twitter page that they have signed the 34-year-old Nthethe, but Mphahlele told KickOff.com that this was in fact not the case.
Now Mphahlele has revealed that the former Bafana Bafana international failed a medical test, which is why they decided against signing him.
Nthethe is said to have only trained once with Bakgaga, but struggled with his groin.
“He failed a medical test. We did not sign him. We did not sign anybody on the last day, but I’m happy with the business we did in January,” Mphahlele tells KickOff.com.
Nthethe confirmed that he has not signed with the club.
“No, I did not sign with them. I can’t say there’s a reason why, but I did not sign with them. But I’m still planning [for the future].”
It’s been a difficult season for Nthethe, who left Chippa United in early January after spending just half a season with them.
Baroka, meanwhile, registered Zimbabwean Rodwell Chinyengetere after signing him from FC Platinum and also brought in striker Siyabonga Vilane from National First Division outfit Uthongathi FC.
