Mathibe, 37, played for Leopards last season after moving from Moroka Swallows and has also played for AmaZulu, Thanda Royal Zulu and Kaizer Chiefs in his long career.
“I have retired now,” he tells KickOff.com.
“It is better to take this route of retiring while there was still good memories about me instead of waiting until I am pushed out.
"Luckily, I have been able to get an opportunity here at the club to be an assistant coach who doubles up as a goalkeeper coach.
"My coaching career is now off the mark and what gives me joy is that I am coaching keepers, a job that I love especially considering that I learnt from the best in the game. The club boss trusts me and so far they are happy with what I have done.
“This is time for me to put back all that I learnt through my 21 years in professional football. I have always wanted to take this route of coaching and I consider myself fortunate that my coaching career has already taken off straight after my retirement."
